Tips to decrease spam messages received.

We have mailfoundry spam filtering setup to scan all incoming messages to our email servers to all domains.  We cannot set any custom or domain specific settings on our mailfoundry spam filter since its settings are global and would effect all email accounts on our servers.  Mailfoundry is an enterprise grade stand alone spam filtering server that checks all emails for message content and checks the senders email address and header information against known combinations of spammers.  Our spam filters block approximately 95% of the messages they receive, marking them as spam, although with the high volume of spam our email servers receive per day, a few may pass to your email accounts.  Some tips to decrease the amount of spam are:

Use unique, non-published email addresses as your personal primary email contacts.  Email accounts such as contact, support, billing, etc. are common targets for spammers because these addresses are usually automatically sent spam at all domain names.  Such email addresses maybe used on your website but keep them as separate email profiles if you are popping your mail so that it may be not as large of a concern that these receive spam.  Email addresses published on your website will tend to receive more spam because this makes the email address public knowledge for spammers to easily access.  Most importantly, do not use *catch all* on your email accounts.  *Catch all* will cause all messages sent to your domain that pass through our spam firewall, even if it is sent to an invalid email account, to be delivered to the catch all account.  This will significantly increase the amount of spam your receive at the *catch all* account.
